Nature Challenge

This project implements a city-wide marketing campaign aimed at increasing citizen involvement before, during, and after the global City Nature Challenge on April 24th-27th, 2020. The goal of this project is to encourage citizens to engage with their natural environment at a community, regional, and global level through the iNaturalist platform, which allows users to take photos of organisms (plant, animal, and fungi) and compiles their observations with other participants’ observations to be used in multi-scale research by professional scientists.

Participants have access to other community member observations through the app in a global map of user inputs. This degree of environmental awareness empowers members of our community to be actively involved with the proliferation of scientific and environmental knowledge. This challenge encourages them to get up close and personal with the organisms that coexist in their community, thus educating and inspiring them to advocate for climate and environmental justice.
