The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is guided by a student led committee that decides how undergraduate student fees are invested in sustainability projects at UC Davis. Each year, TGIF includes one voting faculty member and one voting staff member.

TGIF is currently seeking faculty representation for the 2026–27 academic year; staff are encouraged to express interest for the 2027–28 academic year.

What do faculty and staff committee members do?

Whether you bring experience as a teacher, researcher, supervisor, employer, administrator, or campus partner, your knowledge can help the committee ask thoughtful questions and make informed funding decisions. As a voting member of the TGIF Committee, you will:

Help steward undergraduate student fees by reviewing proposals and participating in funding decisions.
Bring your professional and institutional perspective to committee discussions and proposal reviews.
Help students develop professional skills through real-world experience evaluating projects, budgets, and sustainability initiatives.
Learn about sustainability efforts across UC Davis and connect with students, faculty, and staff working on campus projects.
Help shape the future of sustainability at UC Davis by supporting projects that respond to student priorities and campus needs.

A unique opportunity to work alongside students

TGIF is intentionally student led. Students play a central role in determining how their fees are invested, while faculty and staff members provide additional perspective, mentorship, and institutional knowledge.

Before You Join

This is a voting role, not a funded position.

Faculty and staff members serve as volunteer voting members of the TGIF Committee, helping determine how undergraduate student fees are invested in sustainability projects. However, faculty and staff committee members are not financially compensated by TGIF for their service.

Commitment & Expectations

Faculty and staff members should be prepared to:

Attend weekly committee meetings on Wednesdays from 12–1 p.m.
Commit several hours per week during proposal review periods to read applications, participate in discussions, and help evaluate projects.
Recuse themselves from reviewing or voting on proposals when they have a reasonable involvement, connection, or conflict of interest with a project or applicant.
Approach proposals with an open and impartial perspective, keeping the interests of the student-funded program and the broader UC Davis community in mind.

Faculty and staff interest is accepted year round! We're especially interested in faculty and staff who are excited about sustainability, enjoy working with students, and want to contribute their perspective to a student-led decision-making process.
