Davis Freedges
This project works to close the gap between food insecurity and food waste by providing The Freedge: a community fridge that allows all community members to leave excess food or to take donated food, subject to local health and safety regulations. This allows better access to food for those who are food insecure and allows reduction of food waste. This project plans to install two additional Freedges in Davis in order to expand accessibility to the student community, as well as build three carts that can be pulled via bike to aid in produce recovery from sources such as the Davis Farmers Market. This project also provides educational opportunities for undergraduate students interested in sustainability by having Davis SEEDS conduct research regarding food waste diversion and community impact.
