Project description:

The DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Eco Materials Library collects and displays the most comprehensive collection of eco materials (bio-based plastics, bio-resins, bio-silicones, bio-composites, living matter such as bacteria & fungi) that best fit the needs of undergraduate and graduate students on campus, inspiring their work and moving towards a zero-waste and sustainable design practice. This project is hosted in The Prototyping Lab in Cruess Hall and it engages the broader student design community in the life cycle analysis of materials used in their projects, raises awareness and participatory responsibility in the use of new innovative and sustainable materials, stimulates reflection and mobilizes students to change behavior in waste production, fosters sustainable development and promotes a circular economy where waste and environmental impact move towards zero.
