Project description:

The Fungtopia Sustainability Project is a multidisciplinary research project that collaborates with a variety of campus departments, and is built upon engineering, biology, design, food science and technology. The project's main goal is to contribute to the replacement of fossil-fuel based plastics and mitigation of antibiotics within the water supply. The research team has designed multiple samples of mycelium composites with comparable properties to polystyrene and acrylic plastics, and is investigating whether mycelium can remove antibiotics from water through mycoremediation. More information can be found in this news article here posted about the project.
