Updates on the Fall Grant Cycle, the Toxic Plant Garden and the Green Speed projects!

As our Fall Grant Cycle comes to a close, we have approved six new projects to make the Davis campus a more sustainable place!  The TGIF Committee enjoyed reading every grant proposal as there were some innovative ideas that blew us away. TGIF is so excited to see these projects get implemented in the coming quarters.

Current Project Updates: Toxic Plant Garden

We are currently overseeing 11 grant projects that are in progress. Over the course of Fall Quarter, we received some exciting updates from current grantees! One of these updates was from the Toxic Plant Garden project, which began last fall quarter. The aim of this project was to revitalize the educational Toxic Plant Garden located in the UC Davis Veterinary School, which had fallen into disrepair. The project leaders, in collaboration with the Arboretum and Public Gardens and the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Green Task Force, organized maintenance days where they started replanting the garden with the help of many amazing volunteers.

Current Project Updates: Green Speed

Another TGIF project, Green Speed, led by undergraduate UC Davis students, has finished created a fully functional all-electric race car to showcase sustainable energy in engineering and promote green practices. The team built their car from scratch and toured it to 12 outreach events. The project leads noted that TGIF allowed them to empower the local community by inspiring enthusiasm for electronic vehicles and sustainable engineering!

These are just some of the examples of how far a TGIF grant can take your amazing ideas!
