Sprout Up: Expanding environmental education
UC Davis’s Sprout Up chapter has recently completed its TGIF-funded project! Sprout Up provides environmental education opportunities to students in underrepresented or underfunded Title I classrooms. Each week its college student volunteers teach environmental-theme lessons to elementary school students. Their lessons on topics such as being a well-informed scientist and acting as an environmental-steward provide the foundation for future generations to pursue careers in environmentally-focused and STEM-focused careers.
This year the UC Davis chapter of Sprout Up received TGIF funding to help it expand their education programs to Woodland and surrounding areas. With their grant, Sprout Up was able to acquire new whiteboards and other educational resources to encourage students to work in small groups to think critically.
