Water Wise: A path to sustainable farming
The UC Davis Student Farm has recently completed its TGIF-funded Water Wise project! This project marks a significant step in improving water efficiency and sustainability in agriculture right here on the UCD campus. The Student farm successfully implemented new technology, including a water wheel transplanter and drip irrigation times to optimize water use and reduce water waste.
Water Wise project leaders also prioritized keeping comprehensive records, which allowed clearer and more accurate visualizations of how water is used on the farm. This tracking of data also alerts Student farmers of any unusual water use, such as leaks. This project not only strengthens the farm’s sustainable practices but also serves as a tool to teach students about resource conservation in agriculture.
